The latest round of re-registration for all local and foreign non-governmental organizations in Tajikisan has resulted in very drastic cuts in the size of the country's civic agencies. The total number of registered local NGOs has seen a steep fall from a total of 3130 to 1040 as the bulk of (2090) organizations didn’t manage to complete the required conditions for registration, and submit audited accounts within the tight deadline. Out of over 110 international NGOs, about 50 fulfilled the pre-requisites. There are chances that ever increasing restrictions may have made some expatriates to jump before being shown out. The change of calendar has brought a lean civic sector to brave a winter of containment . This will bring a shift in priorities especially among the local NGOs from promotion and strengthening of the civil society to merely seek means to stay afloat and survive.
